It is recommended to have an eye examination at least every 2 years (or sooner) to assess vision and eye health. Most eye conditions have little or no symptoms. Systemic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes can damage the circulation in the eye. Environmental conditions such as computer use, UV exposure and smoking can all play a role in affecting the eyes and visual system. Prescription medications can cause side effects or discomfort to the eyes thus requiring regular monitoring.
Children's Eye Examinations
Being able to see clearly and comfortably is important for a child’s educational, physical and social development. Many children aren’t aware they have a vision problem and will generally try to adapt, without knowing they could see better. Optometrists recommend children have a full eye examination before starting school and regularly as they progress through primary and secondary school. This is particularly important if there is a family history of eye or vision problems.
